A Wardrobe That Doubles As A Glam Room
Alaya F loves to call this apartment her “hustle home”. “I am a true Mumbaikar at heart,” says the 27 year-old actor, standing in her cream-coloured living room one December morning. “I don’t think I could live anywhere else—except perhaps in New York. They are similar in terms of the hustle culture they have. That’s the energy of this home—to keep moving. This is the home that I’m in to work hard, so I can build towards my dream home.”
Two of the three bedrooms in the home were designated as a yoga room and a glam room respectively. The former, a room where “all the hectic fun bendy flexible stuff happens”, is bare but for a wall of mirrors and a corner shelf for mats and kettlebells. The latter, where she shoots her beauty vlogs, gives off a boho chic vibe, empanelled with closets on two sides for ample storage, and nothing but a large dressing table set up so as to take advantage of the natural light filtering in from the floor-to-ceiling wall-sized window. The wallpaper and cane panelling inside the wardrobe doors in the glam room offer nice backdrops for her Instagram photoshoots. - Nidhi Gupta
A Serene Walk-In Wardrobe Bathed In White
Radhika Seth has her answer to the common dinner party question, “If you had to choose an alternate career, what would it be?” ready to go. The content creator-actor-podcaster-entrepreneur would happily add 'interior designer' to her ever-expanding repertoire. One of the most compelling highlights of the home is an expansive walk-in closet, converted from one of the three bedrooms. For Radhika Seth, who was part of the “Hannah Montana generation” growing up, the walk-in was a lifelong dream realised. “Obviously, work requires it as well,” she says. “I spend a lot of my time in my walk-in, getting ready with my team and stylists. So I feel like it was an absolute requirement for me to have.” -Nuriyah Johar
An Opulent 400-Square-Foot Walk-In Wardrobe
With the daughters having grown up and moved to their own homes, Anita Mody wanted to revamp her home. Designed by Kayzad Shroff and Maria Leon of SHROFFLeON, Mody’s new home is suitable for her empty nest, and she says, “I now have something I’ve always wanted…a walk-in closet.” The 400-square-foot walk-in wardrobe, located in her master bedroom, has textured wooden flooring like the rest of the private spaces in the home. The closet consists of grey ceiling-height shutters and transparent shutters with black frames. Gold accents, a fluffy statement chair, and floor-to-ceiling curtains add a glamorous touch to the luxurious space. - Devyani Jayakar
Muted Backdrop To Let The Clothes Shine
“If I could work 48 hours a day, I would. And who better than Gauri to create my workspace for me," says Manish Malhotra explaining his choice of designer for renovating and expanding his Pali Hill home. In the study-cum-fittings room, Gauri Khan provides a subtle backdrop for the gorgeously embellished designs that are characteristic of Malhotra's study-cum-fitting room. The design of the space honours Malhotra's eye for detail but is toned done in its design approach. “I spend the whole day with bling and shine and embroideries and colour…so when I come home, it’s not what I want at all," says Malhotra. Bold striped wallpaper, houndstooth upholstery, and pale colours fit his brief while weaving in a mix of vintage and modern that runs through the designer's townhouse as a common thread. - Priyanka Khanna
Museum-Worthy Olive Green Walk-in Wardrobe
In this lavish duplex in Bengaluru by FADD Studio, the walk-in closet in the master suite is larger than the bedroom itself. The walk-in closet is a deep olive space exuding a quiet sophistication as opposed to the white and peach tones in the rest of the home. Almost everywhere you look, fluid curves replace straight lines, except in the closet and the master suite. The flooring stands out as well from the rest of the upper floor. Here, the heavily veined marble floor along with the gold and black accents lend the space an artful exuberance. - Devyani Jayakar
"Run-in" Closet For A Fashion Lover
In his own words, Karan Johar wanted a "massive wardrobe". Knowing the filmmaker's love for fashion, Gauri Khan did not skimp on the storage space. She designed a walk-in closet for him that was as glamorous as the rest of his home. Featuring wooden flooring and decks, the walk-in celebrity closet also has enough mirrors to view his outfit from every angle. The large closet even has enough room for his children to play in. "I joke to Gauri that what she’s created is not a walk-in but a run-in,” says the designer of his enviable wardrobe in his swanky bachelor pad. - Priyanka Khanna
A Closet Fit For A Princess
Aahana Kumra's walk-in wardrobe is the embodiment of "Barbie-core". The enormous closet was previously the home's spare bedroom. With its princess chandelier, larger-than-life mirror and fluffy pink vanity chair, the interior looks straight out of a Disney set. The actor's enchanting closet is a real-life treasure trove with fashion essentials filled to the brim. "I always thought my girlfriends would love it, but I never imagined my guy friends would too," she says about her wardrobe. “But more importantly, my clothes are finally in order—so I can finally dress the 'part', even when I'm home.” - Vaishnavi Nayel Talawadekar
A Wardrobe With A Sea View
In her airy Mumbai apartment, Sonakshi Sinha's stunning walk-in wardrobe overlooks the sea. The large space previously was the master bedroom that she converted into a glamorous walk-in wardrobe complete with pull-down hangers, a large glass table and a wooden desk and chair. The bedroom is connected to the walk-in wardrobe while a massive moving wall spanning 15 feet separates her bedroom and her walk-in wardrobe from the dressing room outside. Being an actress, she constantly has visitors who need access to her dressing room. The designers of the home, Rajiv and Ekta Parekh of reD Architects, explain the privacy-focused spatial layout saying, "When Sonakshi had outside people coming in, in her earlier home, she had to have them come into a bedroom, or a walk-in wardrobe, or even in her bathroom. Here, we were able to ensure that the way we've designed the space, no outsider compromises her privacy in her bedroom.” - Nuriyah Johar
