With Valentine's Day fast approaching, now’s the time to make those reservations. From charming coffee shops to opulent fine dining restaurants, here’s a roundup of new restaurants in Mumbai to choose from.
Silk Road Coffee Company, Versova
Versova’s newest haunt for coffee enthusiasts, Silk Road Coffee Company is a warm, expansive, and refreshingly verdant escape from the relentless bustle of the city. Designed by Samia Khan and Mansi Shah of Mindspace Interiors, the coffee and bakehouse spans around 3,500 square feet. A design motif that runs throughout the space, seemingly unfinished brick walls stand as an emblematic homage to the Silk Route. Warm wooden elements breathe life into the space, from the grand doors to the spiral staircase and the furniture used throughout. In addition to a spacious indoor section, the café features an airy outdoor space flooded with natural light. Perfect for a charming coffee date, Silk Road Coffee Company allows you to disconnect from the chaos and pause for a while.
Across, Kala Ghoda
One of the most talked-about new restaurants in the city among food enthusiasts, Across’s fast popularity is belied by its simple, unobtrusive interior. In the heart of Kala Ghoda, this quaint spot focuses keenly on traditional Eastern Himalayan cuisine—a seriously unexplored fare in the city’s culinary landscape—with a modern twist. It is helmed by Chef Viraf Patel and Chef Prakriti. Patel says, “We are celebrating the culinary culture of the Himalayas while retaining the region’s rich heritage. We undertake the techniques passed down through generations and aim to highlight the distinctive ingredients while offering a contemporary twist to suit modern tastes and preferences.” Intimate and warm, the interior is designed by Mihir Mistry of Skill Craft Decor. White brick walls, mint hues, and honeyed woods inform the visual language, along with an evocative selection of photography that hangs on the walls.
Blah!, Santacruz
Much like its first outpost in the city, Blah! Santacruz offers an immersion into a world of unrestrained whimsy—think larger-than-life flamingo sculptures, glittering disco balls, mirrored ceilings, giant neon details, and the like. Designed by Keith Menon, co-founder of Spiro Spero, the interior is the visual personification of a party. It is playful, maximalist, and wholly colourful, and yet function lies at the very core. The restaurant is spread across 4,400 square feet across a two-storey interior, which features a variety of dining zones as well as a private dining area. “With this new location, we’ve elevated ourselves—be it through the cocktail programme, creative plating, or Instagrammable interiors,” says Niketa P Sharma, one of the co-founders.
Milagro, Worli
A glittering new fine-dining spot in the city, Milagro is probably best summed up by founder Francesca Smith, who says, “Mumbai has an energy like no other, and we wanted to create a space that reflects that spirit while offering a refined dining experience.” Designed by Smith herself, the interior is a striking blend of French finesse and contemporary glamour, featuring dramatic decorative lights, plush seating, and soft lighting. A stunning cocktail bar, brought to life by designer Colby Murray, takes its place of pride as an homage to jazz bars of the past, complete with crimson walls, gold-leaf ceilings, and black crystal chandeliers. The menu, created by Chef José Manuel Borrallo Sánchez from Seville, Spain, who has refined his skills in Michelin-starred restaurants in Mallorca, Valencia, and Paris, is a celebration of authentic Spanish cuisine with a contemporary touch. Ideal for an intimate Valentine’s Day dinner date, Milagro brings forth a heady blend of excitement and elegance.
KMC Bar & Bistro, Fort
KMC in Fort’s winsome Kitab Mahal building has gotten a striking facelift and now stands in an all-new avatar as KMC Bar & Bistro. Resurrected with new life by Chef Niyati Rao and Sagar Neve, co-founders of NISA Experience, KMC 2.0 feels decidedly more opulent and atmospheric than before, making it the perfect pitstop for drinks and dinner on Valentine’s Day. Maximalist vintage wallpapers and a deep shade of red swathed across the walls and ceiling add a luxuriant charm to the interior, accentuated by warm wooden details, tall French windows, and vintage accessories that dot the space. Chef Niyati Rao shares, “At KMC, we strive to bring timeless culinary essences to life with creativity and soul. This new chapter is about celebrating what I love to cook and what I do best, ensuring every dish resonates with authenticity.”
The Fuchsia Loft, Juhu
From the owners of the cult-favourite Tanjore Tiffin Room, The Fuchsia Loft is the perfect spot for a spirited Galentine’s. This bar in Juhu brings forth a dreamy, feminine energy, with a smashing cocktail programme. To evince a sense of intimate comfort, the restaurant is designed with a living-room-meets-speakeasy sensibility, with art-filled walls, eclectic mismatched furniture, and mood lighting. Decorative elements like vintage radios and old typewriters add a seductive vintage flair to the space, further enhanced by a profusion of lush greens. “The Fuchsia Loft is our ode to the multifaceted spirit of women,” says founder Kishore DF. “It’s a space that embodies vitality, elegance, and the power of togetherness.”
NMACC Arts Cafe, BKC
At the new Arts Cafe in NMACC, art, design, and cuisine coalesce effortlessly. A deep appreciation for art lies at the very heart of the café, with incredible works by noteworthy artists like Damien Hirst, Dia Mehhta Bhupal, Sameer Kulavoor, Jennifer Guidi, Takashi Murakami, Rana Begum, and NorBlack NorWhite that serve as a visual feast. Designed by Gauri Khan, the café comes to life with Art Deco details, an earthy colour palette, and a breezy al fresco section. One of the highlights of the space is a sprawling 16-foot bar with an undulating detail and a striking lighting installation overhead. Our V-day recommendation? Visit the incredible ‘Light into Space’ show at NMACC’s Art House, which starts on 13 February, and follow it up with an intimate meal at the Arts Cafe.
