In actress Aditi Bhatia’s Mumbai apartment, curves, character and charm come to life

From whimsical wallpapers to wide open hallways, California-based architect Shreya Porey worked with the actress Aditi Bhatia to transform a 1,369-square-foot builder-grade apartment into a vibrant yet functional haven for her family and her craft

“I’ve known Aditi Bhatia since she was about five years old, so I can’t think of anyone better to design a home that would truly reflect her personality and need,” muses California-based Osaya Architects founder Shreya Porey, when she looks back at the apartment she’s built for the Indian actress in Mumbai. While Bhatia envisioned “a Pinterest-worthy space,” that looked visually intriguing in every frame for her content, she also needed the home to provide the functionality required for her family and two dogs. “She wanted a modern home that matched her eclectic style, but also had enough character to feel warm and inviting.”

A rattan chandelier from Clay Mango hangs above the dining table from Pure Concept Home, with matching cane chairs set against a red IKEA crockery cabinet.

A typical builder-grade shell apartment with “nothing special, but full of potential,” Porey recalls immediately envisioning arches in the design. “That decision became the foundation for so many of the curvilinear shapes that followed. Whether it was the furniture, the entrance to her room, or even the shape of her bed, the curves became a signature element throughout the home. Aditi also had a strong affinity for rattan and warm tones, so every detail was carefully chosen to bring out her character, and personality within the home,” relates Porey.

A Vision In Curves

The living room, seen from the entryway’s arch, houses a coffee table and dining table from Pure Concept Home, plaid curtains, and lighting from Clay Mango.

“I call this my safe space,” Bhatia beams. “After looking at so many apartments, the moment I walked into this one, I just knew it was my dream home. The sweet breeze , the view, and sunset hour made it love at first sight…along with the spread out floor plan. While I looked around this space, it not only felt like a sanctuary but also told a story of who I am.”

A floral wallpaper on the ceiling from LoveShackFancy whimsically contrasts the geometric chandelier in Bhatia’s glam room. A plush pouffe rests on a carpet from Jaipur Rugs, reflected against mirror-front closets from Veneto.

“As an actress, I needed a separate space to get ready, especially for my fittings,” Bhatia explains, pointing to her glam / vanity room. "This room also lets me explore my femininity, letting me dive into fashion with all of my pieces arranged neatly—making my life so much easier in the bargain. I also have mirror shutters because I use this as a dance room, too.”

“I’m a hyper organised person, and every little thing has to have its own designated place—so, designing my wardrobe gave me an immense sense of satisfaction," says Bhatia.

More from the vanity room.

“We wanted the house to feel like a piece of art in itself, with fashion as a major source of inspiration. Aditi is incredibly passionate about shopping and has an impressive collection of unique pieces, so we wanted the space to reflect that,” Porey shares, explaining how the project also posed a bit of a challenge for her, pushing her out of the design comfort zone she’s used to. “I typically lean towards earthy, more minimalist Japandi-inspired interiors, so embracing this vibrant, eclectic style was a real departure. One of our main focuses was the vanity room, which had to accommodate a massive walk-in closet and still offer enough space to fit an entire team of makeup artists, hair stylists, and fashion teams. The room needed to be spacious enough for fittings and to create an effortless flow of creativity and functionality. The result is a space that feels as glamorous and stylish as Aditi herself, while also meeting her practical needs.”

The key focus in the apartment was also to create wide, open hallways—spacious enough for Bhatia’s dogs Ollie and Murphy to roam freely and for her grandmother (who has special needs) to move around comfortably.

The palette of soft, pastel hues is carried forward in the bathrooms.

It was Bhatia’s large audience as an actress—with 6.5 million Instagram followers who’d see her home through her stories everyday—that brought about part pressure, part fun for Porey and her team. “And Aditi brought a wealth of inspiration to the table herself. We designed every room to be accessible and appealing to her audience’s age group, while ensuring it still felt mature and relatable for older generations. The balance we struck between youthful energy and timeless elegance is something I’m really proud of.”

Every Room Tells A Story

Sage cabinets with matte black fixtures against a chequered floor and a white stone ribbed backsplash bring in visual play in the kitchen.

The sink echoes the floor with a miniature version of the black-and-white check play.

Bhatia’s mornings often begin in her quirky, cheerful kitchen, where she finds joy in cooking. The glam room becomes her creative hub for dancing, working (and working out), and shoots; while her serene bedroom is her sanctuary to unwind with movies on the projector. Self-care rituals take center stage in her dream bathroom, complete with a spacious skincare closet. Afternoons are spent with her mum and dogs in the cosy living room, which doubles as the perfect spot for game nights or hosting friends in the dining nook. Her mother’s art corner and the charming, English inspired passageway filled with framed photos echo warmth and togetherness throughout the home.

After living in this apartment for close to a year, Bhatia looks at the space as a personal journey in learning herself better, which she hopes to share with her audience. “I’ve discovered what I really do like and what I don’t, and actually found a sense of individuality somewhere along the way.”

A custom rattan bed adds visual warmth in Bhatia’s mother’s bedroom, with linens from West Elm, and a pair of complementing bedside lamps from Fig Living.

“No matter the kind of day I have had, the minute I enter my house, it puts a smile on my face because it transports me to a safe place, my safe space…my very own home, which I’ve built,” Aditi Bhatia proudly proclaims. While her friends often debate whether her home resembles one in London, a quirky space in LA or even a truly modern Indian house, Bhatia shares that her inspiration came in little by little, from places she traveled to over the years. “I’m so glad people see that, it makes me feel like the essence of my life reflects in every room, and as long as it can blend together and make sense to me, it’s all good!”
