The Vastu Shastras have a deep relationship with both Vedic astrology and numerology, and as a result, correlate to your house number. The direction in which a home is oriented is governed by a particular planet, which aligns to a numerical vibration, and colour combination. “While neither Vastu nor numerology deem any number as good or bad,” says Manasi Thakkur, a Mumbai-based Vastukar, “a house number’s compatibility with its owner’s birth number can greatly affect his growth and success,” she feels. In this week’s Vastu feature, she gives us a general overview on how a house number can impact a residence.
House Number 1: New Beginnings
A house number 1 makes a great starter address for any individual who is single and a bachelor, more focused on elevating their career rather than starting a family. This house number gives its owner a strong sense of self-sufficiency. Don’t expect much of a footfall from guests, as this house has a very busy, industrious vibe. The owner should consider using this residence as a work-from-home set up, as it is promising both for career growth and financial abundance. “Try and add as many red accents to the colour scheme to emphasise the go-getting vibe of this house,” Thakkur says.
House Number 2: A Family Home
This cosy home will make you forget about the chaos which accompanies the world around it. A house number 2 is the idyllic family home which more often than not will have a multi-generational family living together, grandparents and their grandchildren included. A house number 2 will always be filled with curios, art and usually have a garden attached. There is a sense of inertia and relaxation which accompanies its ambience, so work or education may take the back-burner at this address. Most pastel colours work well in this home. “This house makes for a wonderful vacation home or is best suited to the needs of a retired couple,” the Vastukar says.
House Number 3: Harmonious Relationships
The ambience of this house, offers its inhabitants a sense of self-expression, so it is quite likely that the family who lives here will enjoy harmonious relationships. “A couple on the brink of divorce may just reconsider their intention to separate, if they move into a house number 3, because of the vocalisation of thoughts it offers,” Thakkur feels. This home suits artists, photographers, writers, singers and anyone who works in the media. In terms of colours, most citrusy hues like orange and lime shades are auspicious for this home.
House Number 4: Traditional Alliances
“If you like routine, predictability and are risk-averse, a house number 4 is for you,” Thakkur says. This house number creates a sense of responsibility, discipline and structure which is why children raised in this house tend to excel in their academics. The ambience of this residence may create monotony in a marriage, but an alliance built to last. Earth tones are best suited to match the traditionalists who usually gravitate to this address.
House Number 5: Home To Host
This house number ensures that no two days will be the same. Its owners will be very gregarious, artistic and will entertain guests on most weekends. The family who lives here will also be well-travelled and world-wise. “Needless to say, if you are a recluse and are deeply introverted, you should avoid house number 5, as it will leave you feeling depleted,” Thakkur says. Oceanic hues of blue and green resonate with the flowing nature of this home.
House Number 6: Feminist Family
A house number 6 will make a family very matriarchal. It will also make the men who live here deeply compassionate and question the status quo. “6 is an aesthetic number, so this address will be maintained as impeccably as an art gallery,” Thakkur says. Shades of royal blues and purple are best for this home. This house number also has a healing atmosphere, so if your health is fragile this residence is best suited to you,” Thakkur advises.
House Number 7: A Meditative Space
A house number 7 will always have a sacrosanct aesthetic, and its inhabitants will be deeply spiritual. “The otherworldly energy of this house number makes it best suited for individuals who are artists or spiritualists, but its detached vibe isn’t best suited for either individuals who are in the thick of their careers or starting a family,” Thakkur says. By this she means that this address is best suited for older couples, or those with a monastic worldview. Woody tones and deep, rich shades work well for this address’ inward gaze.
House Number 8: A Place Of Power
A house number 8 will always make its inhabitants very concerned with ambition, money and façades. “You will never find a poor person living in room number 8,” Thakkur laughs. Reflecting their lofty ideals, the interiors of such an address will look like a museum or palace. The downside to this residence’s vibe is that they may be overly concerned with material acquisitions and have strained relationships. Again, this is a structure which is better suited for work, rather than selected as a home to live in. Shades of cream, ivory and white work well at this address.
House Number 9: A Humanitarian Home
You will always find the family living in house number 9 very inspiring, as this residence’s mood offers its inhabitants a strong need for social justice and a deep sense of compassion. This home will work well for a social worker, lawyer, animal activist or artist. Like house number 6, this house also has a very healing vibe, and will always exude a spa-like ambience. Soothing tones of maroon and magenta will nurture the deep thinkers who live here.
Thakkur concludes stating that a home buyer should ideally consult a Vastukar before selecting a house number, as there are many astrological implications which need to be factored in to guarantee that the address will prove lucky for its owner and their family.
