A unique headboard is the perfect way to infuse personality, creativity, and fun into your space. From murals to unconventional materials and shapes, these unique headboard ideas culled from the AD archives can turn an ordinary bed into the focal point of a room.
A Child’s Whimsical Headboard
Brothers Yash and Parth Jhawar of NZ Associates were approached by their clients to design a 10,000-square-foot bungalow in Nagpur. The bungalow, aptly named the Vayu House, takes full advantage of its southwest orientation, allowing every corner of the residence to be bathed in natural light and fresh air. Embracing a whimsical design scheme, the children’s bedroom features a curved headboard, a custom white chequered bedside table, and a fun Sesame Street mural that adds to the symmetry and visual consonance of the space.

A Delicate Rattan Headboard
This largely handcrafted apartment in Mumbai is affectionately coined as the Embroidered Home. It has a pared, organic material palette and a complementarily muted colour scheme that highlights the spatiality of this chic 1,300-square-foot three-bedroom space, with an en-suite each, a compact kitchen and a balcony. The master bedroom is dotted with pockets of embroidered and handcrafted accents. Instead of paint, wallpaper from The Pure Concept has been used on cabinet doors and walls behind the bed. A custom rattan headboard by Wicker Story was customised and installed onsite.

A Dramatic Angular Headboard
With white and black palettes, curious artworks and objects inspired by pop culture, this home by interior designer Sanjyt Syngh unfolds like a chessboard gone rogue. "Each space was designed to conjure shadows, contours and drama, and draw the eye to the details," avers the designer. The headboard in the guest bedroom channels a scintillating skyline, while the upholstery emblazoning it depicts a freewheeling flightpath. For the bedrooms, he dialed up the drama with wallpaper, opting for a black-on-black polka dot design for the primary suite and a daisy 3D pattern by Arte for the nearby guest bedroom.

A Serene Blue Headboard
Satish Ray is celebrated for his satirical videos and humorous sketches on YouTube and Instagram, but his home tells a different story—one that reflects his childhood and personality. Every nook and cranny of the house is thoughtfully curated, showcasing meticulous attention to detail in colour combinations and finishes. The master bedroom evokes the stunning beauty of the Himachal mountains, enveloping the space in a calm and serene ambience. The wallpaper beautifully encapsulates this essence, while its predominantly white palette enhances the room's tranquil atmosphere, seamlessly balancing vibrant accents with soft simplicity.

A Bold Brass Headboard
The drama of this Bengaluru home varies from room to room, with rich, deep colours in some spaces and more subdued tones in others. The primary bedroom, with its terracotta ceiling and walls, is a compelling case in point. Moody and hypnotic, it serves as a theatrical counterpoint to the cool black-and-white trim and shelving of the home office. The primary bedroom is a terracotta oasis that tips its hat to its owners’ roots. Traditional Assamese brass accents, locally known as jaapi, emblazon the wall above the bed. The custom hand-beaten brass headboard by Humming Tree cuts an elegant contrast to the cow-print Sofit nightstands.
