Speaking about this new outlet, Virat says, “I’ve been genuinely stoked to debut One8 Commune in Hyderabad. Commune is all about a vibrant dining experience, and we’ve taken it up a notch here. From our thoughtful design and dedicated team to the overall atmosphere, we’re thrilled to bring you the finest One8 Commune experience yet.” Designed by Sanchit Arora, Vinayak Sharma and Aayush Misra of Studio Renesa, the space encapsulates a vision that seamlessly transitions from day to night while fostering a sense of community and versatility.
The concept for Virat Kohli's new restaurant originated from a desire to curate a design ideology that embodies the brand's philosophy. Studio Renesa took cues from the brand's existing ethos, aiming to create a space that transitions effortlessly and communes seamlessly from day to night. Envisioned as a dynamic, multi-functional space, One8 Commune aspires to be both luxurious and inviting, catering to diverse needs and moods throughout the day.
Within the fabric of Hyderabad's bustling city life, the restaurant mirrors the city's dynamic and vivacious nature. The design of this restaurant reflects the rich tapestry of One8 Commune’s brand identity while drawing inspiration from its earlier locales in Mumbai and Bengaluru. The result is a space that emanates a unique yet comforting sense of being part of the One8 Commune community.

The theme is "Tropical Maximalism." This concept merges lush tropical elements with modern design principles, creating a space that is both vibrant and sophisticated. Studio Renesa's focus on material play and tonality allowed them to encapsulate the brand's vibrancy while embracing their penchant for minimalist design. “The result is a delicate balance— a space that exudes opulence without overwhelming the senses,” says Sanchit.
Upon entering One8 Commune, guests are immediately enveloped in a lively atmosphere. The experience starts at the service area on the left and flows into the main space, where a bustling seating area on the right contrasts with a serene dining space on the left. Elements like dynamic bubbling partitions and fluted paneling add depth and detail to the space, making the space visually engaging. The use of materials, from teakwood to customized designer vitrified tiles by Kasa Decor, along with textured paints, fabrics, and wallpapers, enriches the tactile experience. Subtle lighting accents demarcate different zones, enhancing the overall ambience.
At One8 Commune, every detail is meticulously curated, from the furniture to the lighting fixtures. Drawing inspiration from the tropical surroundings, the team introduced custom-made furnishings by Rahul Anand of Drapesy and lighting fixtures by Girish Thawani of The Light Boy Co. that enhance the ambience and contribute to the overall dining experience. The use of materials like rattan and Afro prints adds layers of texture and visual interest.
The design team navigated the delicate balance between grandeur and subtlety, ensuring that the space exudes understated elegance while incorporating maximalist elements. Delineating distinct areas within the open canvas without resorting to overwhelming partitions was a key focus, resulting in a space that feels both expansive and intimate.
At the heart of One8 Commune lies its remarkable capacity to evolve from dawn to dusk seamlessly. The innovative design approach enables the space to adapt to diverse needs, fostering an ambience that mirrors a contemporary yet enduring style. A standout element of the design process was crafting the alleyway that links the bar to the DJ counter, symbolizing the dynamic flow of energy embodied in the space.
