The garden plays an important character in Jaipur fashion brand Harago’s rendition of home textiles. Sunflowers in bloom dot the embroidered running stitch on napkins, while cross-stitches crisscross throughout the collection. “Jaipur is beautiful in the rain,” says founder Harsh Agarwal. “You can see vibrant flowers blooming in stunning colours, creating a lively scene. These shades represent joy, celebration, and cultural richness, which we wanted to infuse into the collection.”
A design trip through Chettinad also strongly influenced the collection of Harago, which Harsh founded along with his siblings Yashika, Mohish and Anvi. Beautiful checks seen all around the town—on lungis worn by local men, saris draped on women, tiny cloths used in temples to cover baskets of flowers—make their way back to tablecloths that layer colours, stripes, and checks. “We felt so connected to this beautiful graphic design element in the everyday lives of the people of Chettinad that we couldn’t resist infusing it into our collection,” he explains.
And thus, the collection spans the length and breadth of a country where craft magic reigns supreme. One particular napkin—which features a penguin cross-stitched onto a crisp white cotton background—while made for use at a social soirée carries a richly layered personal connection. “Our cross-stitch work is done in my hometown, Bhilwara, where my mother actively manages a community of talented women artisans. By creating opportunities for them and nurturing this craft, we’re not just preserving these techniques but also building a supportive community.”
As for the instant nostalgia that’s bound to hit you when you wipe a stray raspberry out of kilter from your face, it is entirely deliberate: “We believe that when you sit down for a meal, it’s a moment to forget the worries of the day and just enjoy the food and company. Just as a child experiences life with a carefree spirit, full of joy and wonder.”
